Here are some of my expressive writing pieces written in circle, presented to you as is, in all their unedited writing flow. These were usually written in 20-minute sessions, in response to a particular prompt or poem. (I also write much messier pieces about personal stories and goings-on in my life, but you’ll have to come write in circle with me to hear those!)
Mourners’ Lament After Catastrophe
Let us keen and wail and hold each other, but let us not ask why.
Techno/Eco/Parental Grief
My phone will stay lost, in a forest that will not give up its secrets.
The Priestess of Solitude
I would like to be a temple priestess at the monastery of solitude.
Crack House Door
It's a darkness that demands the alertness of the creatures that want to live through this night.
What Have I Forgotten to Say?
I have no idea who made the hole. I can only remember the feeling of the task that was mine, to hammer my peg into it.
Wolfsplaining
The wolf and I are taking a walk together through the forest, discussing our relationship.
Leaping off Whitman
I want us to reclaim the power of the fairy tales written by others and know that we will decide who Rumpelstiltskin is and how her story ends.
